Fashion Editorial Model Headshots

Here’s a shot from a simple fashion shoot in my studio where we aimed for 5 outfits in total. I decided to use my medium format film camera for this session. It is still very challenging to scan film in my house since the process of preserving the stunning colour you get from film is a rather delicate one. I definitely need to keep up my exploration of new methods!

The other day I set up another fashion shoot in my studio. This time I arranged the lighting to present a less polished and sophisticated look, all the while keeping the impression clean enough to still be visually appealing. My reasoning behind doing so was to create a less stimulating (or in other words—less of a “studio look”) in attempt to achieve an organic feeling. I will keep my blog updated with different types of future lighting set ups.

Thank you as always to my awesome team mates and best wishes to the model, Liz, for an awesome career in modelling that awaits her.

The other day we did a minimally styled fashion editorial in my studio.
I tried not to light the subject directly this time in hopes of creating a less stimulating look. The idea was to pair this low key lighting with a minimalist, organic vibe. I’ve attached some of my favourite shots from the session below.

Much appreciation to my awesome team for making things happen :)

I recently shot a beauty editorial story in my studio where I tested out my new toy (645 medium format film camera). The camera has auto focus and my favourite type of blur, plus the 16 images per each 120 roll is not so bad either ;) That’s pretty much the main reason I wanted to try it out.
The camera operation was smooth without any troubleshooting, so for now, I guess I will keep it!

Here’s one of the images from the session.

Thank you to everyone involved for making this one happen / kind & modest Melanie Jane (Model), and my talented teammates Windy Chiu (HMUA) and Michelle Davis (Stylist).

My teammates and I met up for another studio session the other day.
This time around, I set up the lighting to emphasize the shadows. All the while I keep things feeling natural with certain flatness I incorporated as opposed to making it punchy and full of contrast (which would give it that “studio look”).
We worked with Elena from Elmer Olsen Models.
She was very smart and super quick to pick up on our our concept, making my job that day fairly easy! I wish her nothing but the best for an awesome modelling career and am hoping she gets lots of great opportunities in the near future.

Before it gets too cold, we have to take advantage of shooting outside. Our latest editorial was no exception.
Although the whether was cloudy and overcast, it was still bright enough for us to shoot under the right exposure.
Here’s my favourite shot from the day of. As per the editing time, I decided to go for a black & white treatment, focusing on showing as much tonality as possible.

Thank you as always to my great teammates for your time and effort :)

A while ago, we set up a quick session in my studio.
This time I incorporated a subtle red gel from the left side, which added an accent to both the background and the subject.
Even though it's a rather subtle effect, it still makes a difference in helping everything feel put together, as well as adding some visual interest.

Here's a favourite shot from the shoot.

Much appreciation to my wonderful team this time! ;)

I would like to share a studio session I shot recently in which I used colour gels. The colour palette of the shoot was blue and yellow. We showcased these tones both in the clothing, lighting, and props to create consistency.

Here's a favourite shot from the session!

We recently did a fashion editorial shoot that was a mixture of indoors and outdoors on location.
In attempt to take an advantage of the dwindling summer weather, we shot a couple of the looks using natural light.
It was great to get such a pleasing warm tone organically from the sun.
Here's a favourite shot taken at the parking lot near my studio.

Thanks as always to my wonderful team :)

Once in a while, I have an opportunity to work with a very creative model. This time I worked with Melissa (@Chantale Nadeau / Ciotti Models). I could feel her artistic sense by her posing and her expressions. She consistently brought a uniqueness throughout the session—I couldn't tell when to stop shooting! Nevertheless, I very much enjoy seeing other people's creativity unfold, and I'm looking forward to when I can collaborate with Melissa again in the future.

Thank you so much to my awesome teammates for this lovely story:
